My work is a portrait of a woman wearing Hijab. She is peaceful and strong, she holds onto her hijab with her right hand. We learnt from our parents the proper way to dress and to cover ourselves as a protection and reflection to our culture. In making this portrait, I am aware that there are varied attitudes toward what we wear and why. We are always judged of the way we look and behave it is against the norm. In the picture, she defend her self and her identity as a covered woman. Despite others’ judges, she is comfortable with what represents her. She is surrounded by the blue color that gives depth, and creates harmony with her skin tone.
